LOS ANGELES, CA – A twelve-year veteran of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department was killed in a pedestrian accident in the Valley Village neighborhood of L.A. on Sunday. Officer Amber Leist reportedly saw an older woman fall in a crosswalk at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Whitsett Avenue and rushed to assist. After helping the woman, Leist, 41, was hit by a vehicle as she was returning to her car. Leist was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The driver who hit the off-duty officer remained at the scene, and police are treating the crash as an accident at this time, according to NBC Los Angeles.
Leist is survived by two sons, and our thoughts are with the family of the victim during this difficult time.
