(HESPERIA, APRIL 2020) — An off-duty police officer was tragically killed in a crash with a semi-truck on the 15 Freeway in Hesperia on Tuesday.
22-year-old Garrett Pontier’s 2003 Honda Accord collided with the rear of a semi-truck around 1:30 AM. Pontier was killed upon impact, while the male passenger in the vehicle was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
Pontier was working at the High Desert Detention Center. He had recently graduated from the Sheriff’s Academy in December.
