LOS ANGELES, CA – A high-speed police chase led to a car crash and an hour-long standoff with police. KABC reports that the chase started in downtown LA at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22.
Police began the chase after receiving a report that the driver committed assault and may have been armed. The driver led officers from downtown LA to the 110 Freeway and then to the highway 91. During the chase, the driver crashed into a vehicle near central avenue and later crashed into a pick-up truck. The driver eventually stopped the car on Highway 91 near Cherry Street.
Once stopped, the driver refused to surrender to police, which began an hour-long standoff involving police officers and the SWAT team. Police closed both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 91 during negotiations with the driver. The driver was taken into custody after police officers swarmed his vehicle.
Police have not reported any injures from the chase or vehicle crashes at this time. However, the front end of the suspect’s vehicle was badly damaged.
