LONG BEACH, CA – 50-year-old Charlette Colton was charged with multiple felonies on April 28, after she killed a man while driving under the influence. According to NBC 4, the accident occurred on March 24 on Del Amo Boulevard near Locust Avenue. Colton was driving a Dodge Caravan when she hit the back of a 1996 Honda Accord. 61-year-old Bryan Bogan and a 71-year-old man were standing between the Accord and 1996 Mercedes-Benz to remove towing equipment when Colton hit the vehicle.
The impact caused the Accord to move forward and hit both pedestrians.
According to the police officers on the scene, Colton left the Dodge and ran away from the scene, after the accident occurred. Police located Colton a short distance from the accident and arrested her. They found that Colton was under the influence of alcohol, with a 0.08 blood-alcohol content when the collision occurred. Bryan Bogan and the 71-year-old were rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. The police believe the 71-year-old will survive his injuries, but Bogan died in the hospital on April 4.
Colton was charged with murder, vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, and a hit-and-run which resulted in serious injuries and death. Colton will likely face an extremely harsh sentence for her crimes because this is her second DUI accident within the last 10 years. In 2012, Colton caused major injuries while driving with a 0.20 blood-alcohol content. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office stated that Colton may face life in prison if she is convicted on all of her charges.
