UPDATE: Family identifies bicyclist hit by car

SANTA BARBARA, CA – In an update to a story from May 6, family members identified Andrew Haslem as the bicyclist who was severely injured after he was hit by a car on Highway 154 Saturday morning.

The family reports that Andrew Haslem, 22, is a student at UC Santa Barbara and an avid bicyclist. According to Noozhawk, Haslem was training for the Three Peaks Bike Race, which crosses from Austria to Southern France, when he was struck by a car.

The accident occurred on Highway 154 near San Antonio Creek Road at 9:45 a.m. on May 2. A Toyota Prius crashed into Haslem, while they were both traveling south on the highway.

Officials on the scene reported that Haslem sustained major injuries in the crash. An ambulance rushed Haslem to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The family has not provided any additional information about Haslem’s condition at this time.
