DELANO, CA – A woman was arrested for intoxicated driving on Wednesday morning after a fatal head-on collision on SR-155.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. on May 13, according to The Bakersfield Californian. Rene Demery, 26, was driving her Honda Civic on SR-155 near Zerker road when she crashed head-on with a Chevrolet Cruz.
Police officers reported that the intense impact threw the Honda’s engine out of the vehicle and into an almond orchard nearby.
The Chevrolet’s driver, 44-year-old Yadira Gonzales, and Demery sustained significant injuries in the accident. Officials air-lifted both drivers to Kern Medical center for treatment after the accident.
Hospital staff pronounced Gonzales dead shortly after arriving at the medical center.
Demery was arrested after the accident and is facing felony DUI charges.
