LONG BEACH, CA – A pedestrian and his dog were killed by a suspect fleeing the scene of a burglary in the 2100 block of Gaylord Street late Tuesday night.
Long Beach Police received a report of a burglary at a commercial business around 11 p.m. Upon their arrival, three suspects were detained while one fled in a Mercedes.
Jyvante West, 26, struck Jose Hernandez, 32, at the intersection of 6th Street and Magnolia Avenue before colliding with a fence and being taken into custody.
According to KABC, West was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash and was arrested on several charges such as evading police and vehicular manslaughter.
