LOS ANGELES, CA – Surveillance footage confirms that the tow truck which caused the multi-vehicle collision in South Central LA last Wednesday ran a red light, Fox 11 reports. As many as eight people were injured in the accident, including two LAPD officers.
Officers were responding to a call for backup at about 9:50 pm when the driver of the tow truck drove through a red light at the intersection of East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Main Street. Officers in a patrol SUV collided with the passenger side of the truck, pushing the tow truck across in the intersection into the other vehicles involved.
The driver of the police vehicle was extricated from behind the wheel using the Jaws of Life and is hospitalized in serious-to-critical condition. The tow truck driver and the other officer were also hospitalized with serious injuries.
The investigation is still ongoing.
