SAN BERNARDINO, CA – A San Bernardino woman is dead and her son arrested after their street race turned deadly last Monday night, according to the San Bernardino Sun.
54 year-old Algetta Strother and her son, Steven Strother Jr., 26, were racing down 9th Street last Monday when they attempted to pass a third car near 9th Street east of Waterman Avenue. Algetta, in a Chevrolet Tahoe, lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over into a light pole, pipe, and a tree. She was pronounced dead on the scene around 10:15 p.m. A passenger in the Tahoe was taken to the hospital for her injuries.
Algetta’s son, Steven, was driving a Buick Century, and struck the car they were attempting to pass, a Toyota Camry. He and the passengers of the Camry were uninjured.
Steven was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and may be charged with vehicular manslaughter.
