SANTA ANA, CA – A man was killed Thursday after his vehicle caught fire following a crash involving a Santa Ana street racer Thursday afternoon.
According to CBSLA, Eugene Harbrecht, 67, a longtime journalist with the Orange County Register, was on his way home from getting lunch when the street racer struck his car at the intersection of Santa Clara Avenue and Bristol Street around 11:45 a.m.
Bystanders were able to pull Harbracht from his vehicle following the crash. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The racer involved, 29-year-old Louie Robert Villa, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to survive.
