HAWTHORNE, CA. – According to the California Highway Patrol, a 35-year-old man was killed in a head-on crash in Hawthorne on the northbound side of the 405 Freeway. The accident occurred on Tuesday night at around 9:40 p.m. near the Rosecrans exit on the San Diego Freeway. All northbound lanes were closed from the Inglewood on-ramp through the crash site until about 1:30 a.m. this morning.
The victim was identified as Adam Herrera, 35, of Los Angeles. Authorities believe that he lost control of his 2009 Honda and spun out, eventually ending up in the carpool lane facing the wrong way with his headlights off. According to the CHP and Patch, his vehicle was then hit head-on by a 2007 Infiniti with two occupants inside heading northbound in the carpool lane.
Herrera was pronounced dead from his injuries and the other two individuals complained of pain after the crash. No arrests have been made, and alcohol or drugs are not considered to be a factor in the crash at this time.
