UC Davis report shows California traffic accidents cut in half

LOS ANGELES, CA – UC Davis has published a new report showing that there is a small silver lining in the stay-at-home measures made necessary by COVID-19. The study finds that from February 27th – April 11th, traffic collisions in the state of California were down 50%. There was also a 40 – 50% reduction in trauma injuries for cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers. These reductions have saved the public about 1 billion dollars.

While some heavy rains in early April skewed the numbers a bit, it’s safe to say that fewer drivers on our roads mean less traffic, less expensive accidents, and fewer injuries.
