Police find dead child after Highway 74 crash

PINYON CREST, CA – The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a car crash that occurred on Highway 74 Wednesday morning, after finding a child’s body near the crash site.

According to CBSN Los Angeles, the accident occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m. on May 5. A man was driving on Highway 74 near mile marker 85 when his vehicle rolled over. The car rolled off the side of the road and then fell 200 feet below the highway.

Officers believe this accident is related to a report of an assault that the police were investigating at 8:30 a.m. the same day. A man had assaulted a local woman on Washington Street and caused moderate injuries.

After the assault, the man got into his car and left the scene. Officials believe this is the same man who crashed his vehicle on Highway 74.

When the police arrived on the scene of the rollover accident, they found a child near the car. Authorities pronounced this child dead on the scene.

The driver did not appear to sustain serious injuries in the accident. However, the police took the driver into custody after the incident.
