High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Arrest After Suspect Attempts to Strike Deputy With Car

BURBANK, CA – A high-speed pursuit ended with one suspect in custody Tuesday afternoon after he tried to strike a deputy with his car, according to KHTS.

The suspect led multiple units from the Santa Clarita County Sheriff’s Station on a high-speed pursuit from the Garzota Drive area of Saugus, after attempting to strike a deputy with their vehicle around 5 p.m.

Shirley Miller, spokesperson with the station, said, “We did initiate a pursuit of a suspect who was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon against a deputy, using the vehicle. Because it was traveling at a very high rate of speed, deputies disengaged. CHP took over near Davenport.”

The pursued vehicle sped through the northeastern area of the Santa Clarita Valley, reaching speeds of up to 120 miles per hour.

A surveillance helicopter following the vehicle saw an object thrown from the car, according to initial reports.

“We also have reason to believe the vehicle is stolen,” Miller said.

The vehicle was able to leave the Santa Clarita area after accessing the southbound I-5 freeway truck lane.

Police performed a pit maneuver on the vehicle, and the suspect was taken into custody after he surrendered on Monterey Avenue in the Burbank area.
