SILVER LAKE, CA – Police have released the identity of the man killed in the Wednesday morning crash that damaged a local seafood restaurant.
Timothy Stirton, 68, a long-time Silver Lake resident was killed after an SUV slammed into his moped, and then crashed into the L&E Oyster Bar, around 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, reported LAPD.
The SUV was traveling southbound on Silver Lake Boulevard when, according to the driver, it accelerated on its own. In an effort to not rear-end any cars, the driver steered into oncoming traffic.
The driver then ran a red light at Effie street, slamming into Stirton and then the oyster bar.
The driver was not arrested but an inspection of the vehicle has been launched to corroborate the driver’s claims.
This crash is still being investigated and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
