SAN GABRIEL, CA – A police officer was seriously injured when he was hit by a car while making a traffic stop on I-10 Sunday afternoon, ABC 7 reports.
The multiple-car collision began at about 1:40 p.m. Sunday, when a Scion FRS cut off a Toyota Rav4 in traffic. The driver of the Toyota slammed on the brakes and swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision. They lost control of the vehicle and hit a CHP interceptor that was parked on the shoulder behind a 2013 BMW the officer had pulled over. The force of the collision pushed the police vehicle into the BMW, which in turn collided with the disembarked officer.
The unnamed officer was taken to a local hospital with major injuries.
Numerous lanes were closed during the investigation. They were reopened by 4:00 p.m.
