COSTA MESA, CA – A woman and her dog were killed this weekend by a hit-and-run driver while they were out for a walk in east Costa Mesa, according to KTLA.
The crash happened at the intersection of Mesa Drive and Irvine Avenue a little after 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning when Riverdale man Ali Zohair Fakhreddine, 31, allegedly ran a red light while suspected of being under the influence.
Fakhreddine, operating a 2014 Hyundai, struck a woman from Newport Beach while she was walking her dog. He allegedly then fled the scene.
The victim, who was not publicly identified, and the dog died at the scene of the accident.
Fakhreddine was arrested a few hours later on charges of suspected DUI and a fatal hit-and-run accident.
The collision remains under investigation.
