Man dead, six others injured in four-car crash in Marina Pacifica

LONG BEACH, CA – A multi-vehicle crash in the Marina Pacifica neighborhood in Long Beach took the life of one man and injured six other people Tuesday night.

According to the Long Beach Post, the accident happened on the Pacific Coast Highway near Loynes Avenue at about 5 p.m. as 31-year-old Mario Medrano, of Norwalk, was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima at a high rate of speed.

Medrano collided with a 62-year-old driver from Long Beach, who was operating a 1994 Nissan pickup truck, and then the vehicle traveled into the lane of oncoming traffic.

The Altima then collided with a 2010 Toyota Prius, the impact of which pushed the Prius into the path of a 2008 Honda Pilot.

One of the passengers in the Altima, a 30-year-old man from Los Angeles, was declared dead at the site of the crash.

Medrano and two passengers were taken to a local hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Two occupants in the Prius and the driver of the Honda were also treated for non-critical wounds.

Medrano was taken into police custody on charges of murder and driving while intoxicated.

The accident remains under investigation.
